And this is the verdict,

I don't think that you are committing the Ad Hominem fallacy. To do that, you'd have to make an argument like the following:
The New Atheists hate what Christianity stands for and really want to continue in their evil ways; therefore, atheism is false.
Instead, I think you are doing a bit of legitimate, amateur psychoanalysis (something I like to do as well) and I think that you are on to something that is essentially correct. The vitriol and superficiality with which these "new atheists" like Dawkins attack Christianity probably indicuates that feel it is threatening to a kind of lifestyle and belief sytem to which they cling. Also, any of the great thinkers such as Plato, and early Christian theologians, will claim rightly that the ability to embrace truth with a detached mind depends on a certain progress in ascesis and virtue. If you cling to a lifestyle that is enslaved to the passions and appetites, you simply won't think clearly.
I guess I'm in trouble, then.
We all are I think? (something about the "old Adam" and the universality of sin).
